My vortex/xt build down under

Postby racevortex87 on Thu Jun 30, 2011 6:16 am

hey guys

last december i purchased a 87 xt fwd to do up for racing, got it 300 bucks in bit ruff condition, since then i have fixed the panels welded sunroof up
resprayed in red gloss, made a strut brace, half cage working on suspension next, and will be converting it to ej20t and rear wheel drive i bought a lseries wagon rear crossmember for that, im looking to take it out on the track before the conversion with the old motor dont think it will last long anyway but will give me an idea off how it feels with an underpowerd motor to get started. will keep you all posted on the progress i also have it on suby club in aus.

thanks

Nice project, keep us posted on the progress.
I'm planning something similar with my white XT, so very curious to read about your experiences with the XT as track car.

Hi Bram

Will do keep ya posted, been reading up on you build very nice work. would think the xt would be more rare in holland than probly here these days. i actualy have dutch heritage myself as my father is from Rotterdam, so good 2 see a ej20t xt geting around over there.

Wow, that looks super awesome and I also look forward to seeing your progress!

Are you planning on converting the beast to 4wd?

Cheers

Hate the hood pins...

Not into red. But. The paint job is excellent.

hey Johnno i will be making it rear wheel drive i have a l series 4wd rear end. but for the track i want it to be just rear wheel drive im not a big fan of all wheel drive on race tracks, love it on the road in my 3.0r, but im not looking to brake records just have som fun n it being a lil bit to handle. and with only rear i can play with various dif ratios bit easyer.

yeh its good for free the cons of my old boy having a cnc plasma cutter at work perfect sized rings firm fit on the towers no load on the bolts. as for the bonnet pins not much choice there required for the track unless u have a back opening bonnet

When I see the link for the flushmount hood pins I'll post it here.

recieved my custom coilovers last week, so rears are now fitted, cant do fronts till i convert to wrx steering nuckle when the half cut goes in, just runing a stiff spring with standard strut.

with the vortex front towers being diferent bolting orientation to wrx/liberty and wanting camber adjustment on the tower i ordered them to suit the vort but they still sent me wrx ones, so i ended up geting me old boy to make some new ones on the cnc plasma cuter at work.
heres some pics.

Looking good those shocks, any specs of them regarding damping and springs and about their standard application? Or are the rears completely custom?

Looking forward seeing the Vortex in action on the track!
