LED Reverse Light Conversion

Postby Stover on Sun Dec 16, 2012 2:34 pm

I live in a rural area with lots of coastal fog and I have always desired brighter back up lights in my 1988 XT6.
So, I found a replacement middle tail light section/reverse lamp housing, and removed the OEM light bulbs, sockets, and associated wiring and ditched them in favor of much brighter LED lights. The results are impressive.

The fog's generally not too bad that often here (JAX, FL) but my driveway is poorly lighted and I wouldn't mind having brighter backup lights at all. I back into my driveway (and all parking spaces) because to me it's easier than backing out... you have to back up at some point in the process and I'd rather do it from the traffic area than from between two big SUVs. Also, if your battery ever goes dead, you're ideally positioned for a jump start. ;)

I wouldn't mind having super bright LEDs for backing up, but I also wouldn't mind having a switch I could press to flash them at drivers behind me who have their high beams on. ;)
